You as a volunteer

I've got some time
I work three days a week which frees up time to do what I love, connecting with people and giving back. I'm a total people person, so volunteering to listen is perfect. Volunteering gigs are way more fulfilling than anything else. It's all about good vibes and helping out. To be honest it is not a big ask.

I want to give back
I'm passionate about giving back to my local community. I believe in the power of connection and want to make a real difference. I love where I live and am always up for making it a better place, that only happens if we all chip in a little I'm eager to contribute my time and energy.

I'm new here and love it
Moving somewhere new was daunting, so I made it a priority to connect with the community. Building relationships helps me feel less isolated and creates a much-needed support system. Plus, it's the best way to discover hidden gems and truly feel like I belong. It turned a strange place into my home.

I hope you will understand
Australia has been my salvation. After a difficult life elsewhere, I finally found peace and opportunity here. My journey hasn't been easy, and I want to share my story to help others understand the struggles immigrants face. Despite the hardships, I'm incredibly grateful to call Australia home.

I'm keen for a stronger community.
I'm a local, born and bred here, my parents came from overseas. This town is in my blood, and I love it! I'm passionate about helping it thrive and want to be actively involved in its future. I'm keen to stay up-to-date on all the changes happening and contribute to making our town even better.

I'm old now and feel I want to give back
I've seen the world, the good and the bad. My travels have taught me the true value of community. Now, I'm back home, ready to share my experiences and give back. I want to help build a stronger, more supportive place for everyone, using what I've learned along the way.
Volunteering for
The Listening Projects
what to expect.
If any of the above people have given you a prompt to get involved, great. The hardest step is the first one and can take a deep breathe and a touch of courage to get involved. Once you are involved you will find a whole heap of people like you, keen to make a difference. Come and sit with us!
What happens.
We are looking for people to come and sit and listen and help the community. We need a core of volunteers in each location who will be trained up in Mental Health First Aid and Listening Skills, these in themselves are great things to have in any community. Each volunteer is run through these courses at no charge under the condition that they are willing to give back to the community.
Giving back is done by sitting down and listening, It’s nearly as simple as that. Each volunteer will be trained in listening skills that will help them lightly facilitate the table, keeping the people at the table listening and the talking on topic. For example, not promoting their political or religious views; instead talking about their life stories or some skill they might be able to share at the table. It could be a short poem, a life lesson they would like to share or how they over came difficulties. The table is a place to sit, listen and absorb. It is guided by tried and tested guidelines.
Each volunteer is supported, and the time you devote is up to you, however, we would like to think you can offer at least two hours a week of sitting, listening and offering some light guidance where you can.
